Wet grinding paper in materialographic applications
Owing to its high removal rates and excellent surface finishes for processed samples, SiC wet grinding paper (silicon carbide) is very well suited for the materialographic preparation. Wet grinding paper allows for an economical and quick mechanical grinding process leading to the desired preparation result. For this process, a distinction is generally made between pre-grinding and fine grinding. Hence, wet grinding paper is available in different sizes and grits. In addition to that, it is also available in a self-adhesive or a non-adhesive version. In general, the grinding process begins with pre-grinding or plane grinding. During this preparation step, wet grinding paper is used. It provides a high removal rate and a uniform material removal. Plane grinding serves to provide uniformly smooth surfaces for all used samples. Fine-grain wet grinding paper is used for the subsequent preparation process of fine grinding. The sample surface is processed in a way to ensure a fine and smooth surface with only a few remaining scratch marks which can easily be removed in the subsequent polishing steps.
SCAN-DIA Wet Grinding Paper
SCAN-DIA offers its customers wet grinding paper in various different sizes and grits. Non-adhesive and self-adhesive wet grinding paper is available in three different sizes and in finely graded grits (P 80 to P 2500). In addition to that, rolled wet grinding paper is available for the SCAN-DIA Bench Top Wet Grinder 3000. Rolled wet grinding paper is available in grit sizes from P 180 to P 1200. SCAN-DIA Wet Grinding Paper provides excellent removal rates and long service lives. The high surface finish qualities achieved for the ground samples allow for a reduction of the number of required polishing steps. Thus, SCAN-DIA Wet Grinding Paper ensures an economic grinding process with short grinding times and as few grinding steps as possible. The typically used SiC grinding papers can alternatively be substituted by considerably harder diamond pre-grinding films. Regular quality controls and suitability tests ensure that high standards are met for SCAN-DIA's Metallographic Abrasives. Our SCAN-DIA Special Brochure Grinding System provides you with more information and gives an overview of all metallographic abrasives.
